Likely produced and painted in 1918 at the conclusion of the war, this drum is unique. Constructed of brass with a catskin drum covering, with hardwood top and bottom, secured by cord and leather tabs; two brass fittings for strap; drum painted with McGill University Contingent - 148th Battalion (C.E.F.) C.O.T.C. - ARRAS 1917-1918 - HILL 70 - YPRES 1917 - AMIENS - HINDENBURG LINE - PURSUIT TO MONS; sounding the battalion crest, 36 cm in diameter, decorated in black, white and red; exhibiting wear and extensive use, with notable small tear in cat skin, remains fair however unique and an important part of Canadian military history.
