Description
A Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration to Lieutenant Colonel J.B. Miller, 23rd Regiment "The Northern Fusiliers" ; (LT. COLONEL J.B. MILLER 23rd REGIMENT). Naming is impressed on the reverse, along with being maker marked "V&S", marked with an anchor (made in Birmingham), the British lion and date marked "o" (1913). Original ribbon suspended for a hanger bearing oak leaves and acorns, with pinback. Extremely fine.
Footnote: When the 23rd Regiment was first activated, it was under the command of Lieutenant Colonel John Henry Knifton who first came to Parry Sound in 1895 as the new town clerk. He had twenty-four years' of militia experience with the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada and another nine years with the 36th Peel Regiment. Lieutenant-Colonel J.B. Miller was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on September 15, 1909, to command the regiment. Miller was the President of the Parry Sound Lumber Company and was appointed Commanding Officer following the retirement of Lieutenant Colonel Knifton. Lieutenant Colonel was awarded his Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration by G.O. 138 in 1914.
