A Victory Medal, bronze gilt, full size, rim impressed 174255 PTE. J. B. DUFFEY C.M.G. BDE., original ribbon, light gilt wear, extremely fine.
A British War Medal, in silver, full size, rim impressed 174256 PTE. J. B. DUFFEY C.M.G. BDE., replacement ribbon, lovely patina, extremely fine.
A Victory Medal, bronze gilt, full size, rim impressed 174256 PTE. J. B. DUFFEY C.M.G. BDE., replacement ribbon, light gilt wear, extremely fine.
A Memorial Cross, in silver, reverse engraved 174256 Pte. J. B. DUFFEY, marked STERLING, worn on a segment of purple ribbon, remains in very fine condition.
An 86th Machine Gun Battalion Cap Badge, in browning copper, two lugs on reverse, measures 47.5mm (w) x 44.4 mm (h), oxidation and dark patina around the edges, very fine.
Footnote: Joseph Bowden Duffey (174256) was born in Bolton, England in July 1890. He was working as a spinner in Hamilton Ontario when he enlisted for the war on September 7, 1915. He arrived in England in May 1916, and was attached to the 3rd Brigade Machine Gun Corps. Duffey was killed in action at Vimy Ridge on April 9, 1917.
John Bowden Duffy (174255) was born in Bolton, England in August 1888.He was working as a spinner in Hamilton Ontario when he enlisted for the war on September 8, 1915, one day after his younger brother.
He arrived in England in May 1916, and was attached to the 3rd Brigade Machine Gun Corps. He served with the 86th Battalion. He was hospitalized several times for sinusitis. He suffered a gunshot wound to his back, and died of said wounds on October 1, 1918.
