A British War Medal, in silver, rim impressed 681176 CPL. W.C. PICKERING. 75-CAN. INF., dark patina, light contact marks, very fine.
A Victory Medal, in bronze gilt, rim impressed 681176 CPL. W.C. PICKERING. 75-CAN. INF., light contact marks and scattered gilt wear, very fine.
Accompanied by a set of photocopies of Pickering’s attestation papers.
Footnote: William Clifton Pickering was born in Toronto, Ontario on March 9, 1892. He was a printer in Toronto, with one year of experience as a private in the R.G. Bugle Band when he joined the war effort. Pickering enlisted with the 170th battalion on February 11, 1916 in Toronto.
He proceeded overseas with the 170th in May 1916, ultimately landing in France in December, at which time he was assigned to the 75th battalion.
He was promoted to Corporal in September 1918. In late 1918 he was wounded by a gas shell and hospitalized. At this time, the 75th battalion was serving in the Hundred Days Offensive, including Canal du Nord and the Battle of Cambrai. By November, they were advancing towards Mons, Belgium.
Pickering was demobilized in May 1919, and returned to Toronto.
