In 10K Gold, the obverse featuring the inscription MEMORIAL OF THE GREAT WAR TO ALEXANDER MCKAY FROM HIS HOME TOWN MERRITTON FOR SERVICES NOBLY GIVEN 1914-1918, the reverse featuring a beaver sitting on a chest with the date 1874 below, encircled by the inscription CORPORATION OF MERRITON COUNTY OF LINCOLN, the rim has been engraved KILLED IN ACTION, rim impressed 10K, worn on ribbon with a Gold 10K CANADA bar with horizontal pin on the reverse, measures 31.7 mm (w) x 35.7 mm (h - inclusive of integral ring), weighs 17.96 grams, light wear, in extremely fine condition.
Accompanied by a small brooch featuring a sepia photo, presumably of Alexander McKay, horizontal pin on the reverse, measures 32 mm (w), dark patina, in very fine condition.
Contained in a jewellers case, exterior in a textured brown leatherette, interior lid marked J.S SMITH JEWELER AND OPTICIAN ST. CATHERINES, ONT., with a velvet medalbed, functional clasp, measures 119.5mm (w) x 77.5 mm (h) x 24.5 mm (d), heavy wear on exterior, in better than fine condition.
