A 1914-15 Star, bronze, full size, reverse impressed 21496 PTE. A. MARR. 10/CAN:INF:, original ribbon, light wear to obverse, in very fine condition.
A British War Medal, silver, full size, rim impressed 21496 PTE. A. MARR. 10-CAN.INF., original ribbon, bright, extremely fine.
A Victory Medal, bronze gilt, full size, rim impressed 21496 PTE. A. MARR. 10-CAN.INF., original ribbon, light wear, very fine.
An 11th Infantry Battalion Cap Badge, in browning copper, lugs intact on reverse, measures 40.6mm (w) x 46.4 mm (h), extremely fine.
Footnote: Andrew Marr was born in Dunbar, Scotland in 1896. He enlisted with the 11th Battalion on September 26 1914 at Valcartier. He was transferred to the infantry base depot in February of 1915 with the 11th Battalion. He was then transferred to the 10th Battalion in April 1915.
At the end of April, 1915, Marr was captured at Ypres by German soldiers. As of May 21, 1915, Marr was reported missing. This was updated on June 28, stating “prev. Re. missing, now unofficially P. of W.” More information was added to his record on July 26, noting that he was a prisoner of war at Munster. Later, he was reported at Friedrichsfield, and then transferred to Chemnitz Ebersdorf.
In December 1918, Marr was a repatriated prisoner of war, being released at Camp Ripon, arriving in England on the 26th. He embarked for Canada in April 1919.
