A British War Medal, silver, full size, rim impressed 476566 GNR. T.J. SMALLWOOD. C.F.A. original ribbon, minor contact marks, lovely patina, extremely fine.
A Victory Medal, bronze gilt, full size, rim impressed 476566 GNR. T.J. SMALLWOOD. C.F.A., replacement ribbon, two notable areas of oxidation and wear, near very fine.
A Special Constabulary Long Service Medal, bronze, full size, rim impressed T.J. SMALLWOOD, original ribbon, light wear, very fine.
Footnote: Thomas James Smallwood was born in Kent, England on October 31, 1888. He was employed as a Baker, with nearly 10 years of service in the 5th Regiment when he enlisted in Victoria, B.C in August 1915.
He was taken on strength with the 3rd battery in Shorncliffe in late October 1915. He arrived in France in March 1916. He was hospitalized many times throughout his service, suffering from measles, multiple hernias (one after being kicked by a horse in July 1916), influenza and bronchitis.
He returned to Canada in November 1918, from Epsom, Surrey.
