Germany, Luftwaffe. An Officer’s M43 Field Cap

(Luftwaffe Einheitsfeldmütze M43 für Offiziere). An extremely well-preserved Luftwaffe Officer’s M43 field cap, constructed of dark blue-grey wool. The cap is surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped toward the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels roll up and are secured in place at the front with two pebbled zink buttons which emanate from the right panel and meet an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left. The crown is trimmed with a length of silver aluminum wire piping, indicating a post-issue rank upgrade. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a dark blue-grey wool trapezoid bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, situated above a tri-colour cockade, measuring 65 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). A protruding visor completes the exterior features, and consists of a rigid card stock core lined in identical wool. A multi-piece dark blue rayon liner encompasses the interior, while a light brown leather sweatband extends across the forehead and bears a stamped mark of “QUALITÄTS MARKE”. A white ink size mark of “58” remains visible on the crown. Otherwise unmarked, the cap measures approximately 19 cm (w) x 27 cm (l) x 14 cm (h). Demonstrating not notable damage or wear, this upgraded Officer’s cap remains in an extremely fine condition.
