Germany, Federal Republic. A Pair of Luftwaffe Badges, 1957 Versions

(Abzeichen der Luftwaffe). A pair of Luftwaffe Badges produced according to 1957 regulations, demonstrating the characteristics of high-quality and early (c. 1965) production, including:

1. An Observer’s Badge, constructed of silvered and patinated neusilber, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, the reverse with two sunken rivets securing the eagle in position, with a crimped hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flattened catch, unmarked, measuring 53.85 mm (w) x 53.18 mm (h), weighing 41.3 grams, in extremely fine condition.

2. A Radio Operator and Air Gunner Badge, constructed of silvered and patinated neusilber, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching dual lightning bolts, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, the reverse with two sunken rivets securing the eagle in position, with a raised barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flattened catch, unmarked, measuring 43.20 mm (w) x 53.15 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
