(Wisam al-Istiqial). Instituted in 1921. Type II (post 1948). Badge: four-piece construction, insignia in silver gilt with red and white enamels, mounted to ten-pointed star base, each star point with five faceted rays, measuring 59 mm (w) x 92.3 mm (h) inclusive of its silver gilt laurel leaves wreath suspension, on its original full-length sash with large bow-tie; Breast Star: four-piece construction, insignia in silver gilt with red and white enamels, mounted to ten-pointed star base, each star point with three faceted rays, with a single faceted ray between each star point, measuring 87 mm (w) x 91.2 mm (h), vertical pinback; and Miniature: three-piece construction, insignia in bronze gilt with red and white enamels, mounted to ten-pointed plated bronze star base, each star point with five faceted rays, measuring 19 mm (w) x 32.3 mm (h) inclusive of its bronze gilt laurel leaves wreath suspension, with rosette affixed to its original ribbon with pinback. Intact enamels, very light contact, extremely fine. In their hardshelled case of issue, carmine red leather-like exterior, marked with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan coat-of-arms in gold-coloured ink on the lid, inside lid in white nylon, padded, maker marked "HUGUENIN SWITZERLAND" and exhibiting the impressions of Badge, Breast Star and Miniature, the base with a medal bed in light green felt with recessed areas for the Badge, Sash, Breast Star, Miniature and Rosette, the latter of which has been lost to time, scuffing and contact marks evident on the exterior, light soiling on the light green felt of the medal bed, case better than very fine.
Footnote: The Order of Independence was instituted in 1921 by Emir Hussain I ibn Ali, Sharif of Mecca. It is the fourth knighthood order of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and is awarded in five grades: Grand Cordon, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight, plus a medal.
