United Kingdom. A Second War RAF Cockpit Clock, by Smith & Sons

A Smith Mark III Second War cockpit clock, possibly for a Spitfire or Hurricane, in a blackened metal case with glass covering the clock, the clock face featuring arabic numerals from 2 to 22 (ever other number is painted with a luminescence element), with a smaller dial numbered 1 to 12 at the 12 o’clock position recording the TIME OF TRIP. Maker marked S SMITH & SONS (MA) LTD LONDON REF No CA/. There are two exterior dials at 5 and 8 o’clock with red lacquer, both functionally twisting. The side of the clock marked BREVET SUISSE 111.406, the reverse is marked with a crowned A.M, and numbered 658. The clock measures 10 cm (w) x 10 cm (h) x 5 cm (d), currently not functioning., small chips to the edges of the glass cover, loss of red lacquer in dials, light contact elsewhere, remains a very unique piece of history, in better than very fine condition.
