United Kingdom. A Royal Victorian Order, Knight Commander Breast Star

Instituted on April 21st, 1896. Constructed of silver and multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a broad Maltese Cross with clusters of faceted rays with matching fans in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a central smooth Maltese Cross bearing a central medallion consisting of red enamels bearing the central Royal cypher “VRI”, surrounded by a blue enameled ring inscribed with the Motto of the Order “Victoria” in capitalized gilt lettering, the central medallion is surmounted by a Royal Crown with red and green enameled details, the reverse of the star with dual vertically oriented nuts for attachment of the central Maltese Cross on the obverse, with a barrel hinge on a raised platform, along with a vertical pinback and broad wire catch, marked “K” and numbered “893”, measuring 75.0 mm (w) x 75.5 mm (l), weighing 74.94 grams, the enamels extremely well preserved, free of chips or flakes of any kind, with subtle patina from age, in overall extremely fine condition.
