United Kingdom. A Royal Tank Regiment Officer’s Astrakhan Beret, 1965

In black mohair, a beret featuring a bullion embroidered Royal Tank Regiment Badge with colour donning the crown, topped by the original regimental hackle of red and green feathers, with a gold piped band around the base. The interior features a 35 mm wide leather sweat band and red silk interior with plastic covering the makers label denoting manufacturer by HUBERT & JOHNSON of London, measuring 54 cm  for the interior circumference. The beret features light wear around the exterior, notable mold/residue on the leather sweatband, and a loss of feathers to the hackle. Very fine. 

Footnote: The Astrakhan No.1 Dress Beret was authorized in 1961 for wear by officers. However, a few years after its introduction, it became an undesirable element of the uniform by the men. It was discontinued in the early 1970s.
