United Kingdom. A Chaplains’ Department Pair to Reverend H.W. Hinde, Wounded in Action

 A First World War Army Chaplains’ Department medal pair, including a British War Medal, dedicated to “REV. H.W. HINDE”, and a Victory Medal, dedicated to “REV. H.W. HINDE”, with the naming official impressed, both mounted for display, demonstrating toning throughout and accompanied by facsimile paperwork, in overall near extremely fine condition.

Footnote: Reverend Herbert William Hinde was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridgeshire, where he took an M.A. in 1903, and later at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. He became a Church of England priest in the Diocese of Ely in 1901, and was later curate in Cambridge until 1905, Hatcham from 1905 until 1909, as well as vicar of St. John the Baptist, Ipswich and Chaplain of the St. John Boys’ Home, among other appointments. Hinde served as Chaplain to the Forces from 1918 until 1919, and was wounded in action. Surviving the war, he held a number of postwar clerical appointments, including Prebendary to St. Paul’s Cathedral, London. He also authored the book “The Life of Love” in 1929, and died in Islington in 1955.
