A 1914-15 Star, the reverse bearing a dedication to “REV. E.R. LOCKYER A.C.D.” for the Reverend Edmund Raymond Lockyer, Army Chaplains’ Department, with the naming officially impressed, demonstrating some toning to the base metal, in near extremely fine condition and accompanied by extensive facsimile paperwork.
Footnote: Edmund Raymond Lockyer was born on 17 October 1879 in Bruton, Somerset, to Cuthbert and Elizabeth Lockyer. He served with the 25th Company, 7th Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry during the Boer War, and later attended St. John’s College, Oxford from 1904 until 1906. He enlisted in the Army Chaplains’ Department in November 1914, and was posted to Egypt and Gallipoli, where he was Mentioned in Dispatches in the London Gazette of 11 June 1918 for “distinguished and gallant services and devotion to duty.” Lockyer was entitled to the full medal trio and relinquished his commission on 13 April 1921 owing to ill health, later being appointed Honourary Chaplain 4th Class. He emigrated to Canada in 1925, where he remained an Anglican priest and died in 1963.
