Spain, Kingdom. An Order of Isabella the Catholic, Grand Cross Star, in Gold, by Jose Gomez, c.1880

(Orden de Isabel la Catolica). Instituted March 24, 1815. (1875-1931 Issue). A beautiful star, in 22K Gold and enamels, a four armed red enamel star with ball finials and clusters of seven faceted rays in each quadrant, obverse medallion is beautifully hand painted insignia of the Order, surrounded by a green enamelled wreath with a white enamel banner inscribed A LA LEALTAD ACRISOLADA POR ISABEL LA CATOLICA (To Pure Loyalty, For Isabel the Catholic) with a surmounting crowned monogram of Ferdinand VII on a blue enamelled field, the reverse presents a vertical pin assembly with dual stays, the center medallion is engraved JOSE GOMEZ Madrid, with central spanish insignia, measures 80.7 mm (w) x 79.1 mm (h), weighs 65.80 grams, very minor hairline cracks in the central medallion and very small enamel chip to the wreath, a decoration of utmost quality, in extremely fine condition.
