(Coroana României). Instituted by King Carol I, on May 10 1881. Type I (1881-1941). Civil Division. The neck decoration, in silver gilt, features a red and what enamelled Maltese Cross, with cyphers of Carol in each quadrant, the obverse medallion features a royal crown on a red enamelled field, surrounded by a white ring inscribed PRIN NOI INSIN 14. MARTIE 1881, the reverse medallion presents the date 10.MAIU and the years 1866 1877 1881 in the white ring, marked with swan punch mark on ring denoting silver composition, imported from countries without a trading contract to France, since 1893, measures 61.5mm (w) x 62.8mm (h – inclusive of integral ring), weighs 50.1 grams (including ribbon), replacement neck ribbon, scattered gilt wear, enamels intact, remains in extremely fine condition.
Accompanied by the Star of the Order, in silver, an eight point star with clusters of silver rays, the obverse medallion features a crown on a red enamelled field, surrounded by a white ring inscribed PRIN NOI INSINE 14 MARTIE 1881, reverse features a vertical pin assembly, pin marked with swan punch mark on ring denoting silver composition, imported from countries without a trading contract to France, since 1893, measures 81.25mm (w) x 81.90mm (h), weighs 53.5 grams, areas of loss of finish on rays, small enamel chip that has been replaced, in near extremely fine condition.
