Description

(Al valore militare). Instituted in 1793. In bronze, the obverse bearing the Savoy cross within a laurel wreath and mounted by a crown, encircled by the words AL VALORE MILITARE, the reverse bearing the inscription SOLDATO TOZZI MARIO in the center, MEDIO PIAVE / 17-21- GIUGNO 1918 around the top and the bottom of the edge, 33.4 mm in diameter, original ribbon, extremely fine.

Footnote: The recipient of this medal is Mario Tozzi (1895-1979), an Italian painter who fought as a soldier in the Middle Piave region of Northern Italy at the end of the First World War. He moved to Paris after the First World War and founded the Groupe des Sept with other artists. Along with this medal, Tozzi has also been awarded the Legion of Honour by the French government.
