Germany, Weimar Republic. A Rare Fire Brigade Honour Cross, II Class, c. 1930

(Deutsches Feuerwehr-Ehrenkreuz II. Klasse). Instituted 3 November 1928. (1929-1936 issue). Constructed of silver with enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms joined through the quadrants by stylized flames, the obverse overlaid by a central black enameled medallion bearing a Saint Florian (patron saint of firefighters), situated within a ribbed ring, the reverse overlaid by a central Weimar-style German national eagle, situated within a ribbed ring, the twelve o’clock arm topped by an arabesque suspension apparatus culminating in an eyelet and loop retaining an original ribbon, the suspension loop stamped with a silver content mark of “900”, measuring 44.37 mm (w) x 52.23 mm (h), weighing 28.7 grams, a rare award in extremely fine condition.
