An elaborate commemorative relief, constructed of wood, the obverse featuring a hand-carved scene of a male and female figure seats in an alpine-style tavern, situated above a dedication of “KRIEGSGEFANGENSCHAFT 1945” (“PRISONER OF WAR 1945”), situated with a fitted and brown-painted wooden frame, the reverse riveted with a magnetic metal suspension loop, bearing a handwritten dedication of “ERINNERUNG A. D. KRIEGSGEFANGENSCHAFT IN FRANKREICH, NORMANDIE. LAGER. CARREN. VON 2. 8. 1944 -15. 4. 1946 HEINZ GÜNZEL” (“MEMENTO OF A PRISONER OF WAR IN FRANCE, NORMANDY CAMP, FROM 2 AUGUST 1944 UNTIL 15 APRIL 1946, HEINZ GÜNZEL”), measuring 34 cm (w) x 24 cm (h), a superb maker-attributed and researchable example of POW ephemera in extremely fine condition.
