Description
Description
(Deutsches Reichspost Schirmmütze für Beamte). A well-preserved Reichspost personnel visor cap, constructed of dark blue wool. The cap features reinforced side walls which are lined on the exterior with a black doeskin cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the band are trimmed with red piping, while an additional length of identical piping surrounds the outer edge of the crown. The crown is flanked on each side by ventilation holes which are reinforced with blackened magnetic metal grommets. Pinned onto the peak is an aluminum Reichspost-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 55 mm (w) x 35 mm (h). Directly below the eagle, the centre of the cap band is an aluminum oak leaf wreath and tri-colour cockade, measuring 35 mm in diameter. The lower edge of the cap band is flanked by black magnetic metal studs which accommodate a black leatherette chinstrap, itself adjusted with two black magnetic metal buckles. A protruding vulcanfibre visor completes the exterior, and is finished in black on the obverse and in brown on the reverse. The interior is encompassed by a brown oilcloth liner, while a slate-grey leather sweatband surrounds the walls. The crown retains an intact transparent plastic rhomboid moisture guard, which sits over a maker’s mark of “OTTO WESELY, WIEN”, below a size mark of “57”. The cap measures approximately 25.5 cm (w) x 27 cm (l) x 14 cm (h). Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include material fatigue to the exterior material (with mothing on the crown exposing the interior liner), a chip to the edge of the visor, and minor soiling of the interior liner across the forehead. The cap remains in a better than very fine condition.
