Description
Description
(NSDAP Schirmmütze für Politische Leiter der Kreisleitung). A well-preserved NSDAP Political Leader’s visor cap, constructed of light brown wool cloth with a subtle whipcord weave, and with an intact internal wire reinforcement maintaining an elegant saddle shape. It features reinforced side walls fully lined on the exterior with a light brown doeskin cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the cap band are trimmed with white wool piping, while an additional length of identical piping borders the outer edge of the crown, all indicating Kreisleitung personnel. Pinned onto the crown is an insignia consisting of a gilded NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, retaining all three reverse attachment prongs and measuring 65 mm (w) x 32 mm (h) overall. Pinned onto the centre of the cap band directly below the eagle is a one-piece wreath and cockade, executed in gilded metal with enamels, retaining all attachment prongs and measuring 110 mm (w) x 45 mm (h) overall. The lower edge of the cap band is flanked on each side by a pebbled and gilded magnetic metal stud which accommodates a chinstrap constructed of multiple rows of twisted and roller gold bullion wire, adjusted with dual sliding knots. A protruding vulcanfibre visor completes the exterior features, and is finished in brown on both the obverse and reverse. The interior is encompassed by a multi-piece brown oilcloth liner, while a wide brown leather sweatband surrounds the walls and is perforated across the forehead with ventilation holes. The sweatband folds down to reveal a fully-intact Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) label bearing a maker’s code of “1073”, indicating manufacture by Peküro (the former firm of Peter Küpper, Wuppertal-Ronsdorf). Otherwise unmarked, the cap measures approximately 23.5 cm (w) x 27 cm (l) x 17 cm (h). Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include minor fatigue to the exterior material, scratching throughout the visor, and minor bending of the side walls. This high-quality and maker-attributed example remains in a near extremely fine condition.
