Description
A lovely countess shaped white porcelain teacup with cobalt blue foliage designs, a 1914 Iron Cross painted opposite the delicate handle, scalloped lip, the bottom is marked with the crossed of swords of Meissen and numbered 3 in blue glaze, measures 110mm (w – including handle) x 63mm (h), no chips or cracks, areas of blue glaze transfer, in extremely fine condition. The saucer in white porcelain with matching foliage designs, a raised scalloped edge, the bottom is marked with the crossed swords of Meissen and numbered 18., in blue, measures 138mm (diameter), no chips or cracks, a lovely plate in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Meissen was established in 1710 and was the premier porcelain factory in Saxony. From 1861-1864, a new factory was built in Meissen’s Triebischtal valley. During the war, patriotic housewares and table wares were created to bolster spirit and demonstrate support. Following the end of the war and the fall of the German Monarchy, the name was changed to Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen. The company is still active today and the brand is held in the highest regard.
