Germany, Imperial. A Pair Of Hanseatic Crosses

(Hanseatenkreuze). A pair of Hanseatic Crosses, including:

1. A Hamburg-issued decoration, constructed of silvered copper with enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with red enameled arms and a central red enameled medallion bearing a silvered Hamburg coat of arms, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENST IM KRIEGE 1914” (“FOR MERIT IN WAR 1914”), unmarked, measuring 40.00 mm (w) x 44.02 mm (h), weighing 18.2 grams, with minor flecking and loss of finish evident to the enamel and base metal, respectively, in near extremely fine condition.

2. A Lübeck-issued decoration, constructed of silvered copper with enamels, on loop for suspension, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with red enameled arms and a central red enameled medallion bearing a silvered Lübeck coat of arms, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENST IM KRIEGE 1914” (“FOR MERIT IN WAR 1914”), unmarked, measuring 39.82 mm (w) x 43.94 mm (h), weighing 18.4 grams, with loss of finish visible to the base metal in addition to a large chip to the enamel of the six o’clock arm which shows crude repair attempts, in fair condition.
