Description
Description
(Heer Dolch für Offiziere). A Heer Officer’s dress dagger, measuring 40 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 26 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains some factory-original sharpening to both the edges and tip, and with some of its original crossgrain visible. The reverse ricasso is maker marked with the classic knight’s helmet logo of Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie, Solingen. The blade sits securely within a nickel-plated alloy crossguard, the obverse of which bears a raised Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, with an intact brown leather buffer pad covering the seam. A single piece of ribbed brown celluloid composes the handle grip, while the dagger culminates in a nickel-plated alloy pommel, decorated with oak leaves around the outer circumference, which screws in to maintain the dagger’s structural integrity. Accompanying the dagger is its original scabbard, constructed of a pebbled and nickel-plated magnetic metal shaft. Two integral oak leaf bands are set in place just below the throat, each with a loop for the inclusion of a hanger. A functional catch within the throat firmly holds the dagger in place during storage. Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some running marks and tarnishing to the blade, as well as loss of nickel to the plates fixtures. The dagger remains in a very fine condition.
Also accompanying the dagger is a matching hanger, consisting of a silvered zink loop with two additional loops emanating from the lower edge. The latter retain field-grey doeskin straps, each topped by a silver aluminum wire tresse, which are adjusted with silvered zink buckles presenting as oval oak leaf wreaths. Each strap culminates in a functional silvered zink spring clip to lock onto the scabbard loops. Unmarked, the hanger measures 27 cm in total length as presented. Demonstrating minor loss of silver finish throughout the metal fixtures, it remains in a near extremely fine condition.
