Description
Description
(Heer Schirmmütze für Mannschaften Fahrtruppen/Nachschubtruppen). A well-preserved Heer Transport and Supply Troops EM/NCO’s visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool. It features reinforced side walls fully lined on the exterior with a dark green wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the band are trimmed with light blue wool piping, while an additional length of identical piping surrounds the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is an aluminum insignia consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 65 mm (w) x 25 mm (h) and retaining both original attachment prongs. Directly below the eagle, the centre of the cap band features an additional aluminum insignia in the form of a tri-colour cockade situated within an oak leaf wreath, measuring 70 mm (w) x 40 mm (h) and retaining all original attachment prongs. The lower edge of the cap band is flanked by blackened magnetic metal studs which accommodate a multi-piece black leatherette chinstrap, itself adjusted with dual magnetic metal buckles. A protruding vulcanfibre visor completes the exterior features, and is finished in black on the obverse and in beige on the reverse. The interior is encompassed by a multi-piece beige rayon liner, while a brown leather sweatband surrounds the walls and is perforated across the forehead with ventilation holes, with initials “JB” stamped into the back. The crown retains an intact transparent plastic moisture guard which bears a maker’s mark of “PEKÜRO”, for former firm of Peter Küpper, Wuppertal-Ronsford, and a faintly-legible distributor’s mark of “MAX PFEILER, MILITÄR-EFFEKTEN, MÜNCHEN”. Inserted into the guard’s slot is a label bearing a handwritten owner’s name with a rank of Gefreiter. The cap measures approximately 24 cm (w) x 27.5 cm (l) x 15.5 cm (h). Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include sporadic fatigue to the material which has compromised the nap (and exposed a small portion of the crown piping core to the back), as well as soiling of the interior liner. The cap remains in a better than very fine condition.
