Germany, Heer. A Panzer Troops EM/NCO’s M43 Field Cap

(Heer Einheitsfeldmütze M43 für Mannschaften der Panzertruppe). A well-preserved Heer Panzer Troops EM/NCO’s M43 field cap, constructed of black wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels roll up and are secured in position with two pebbled magnetic metal buttons which emanate from the right panel and meet an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a black rayon trapezoid bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, situated above a tri-colour cockade, measuring 55 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). A protruding visor completes the exterior features, and consists of a rigid card stock core lined in identical black wool. A multi-piece black cotton/rayon blended cloth liner encompasses the interior. Unmarked, the cap measures approximately 18 cm (w) x 26.5 cm (l) x 14 cm (h). Minor material fatigue is visible throughout the base material, and includes some sporadic mothing. This field-worn example remains in a better than very fine condition.
