Description
Description
(Heer Schirmmütze für Mannschaften der Sanitätstruppe). A very well-preserved Heer Medical EM/NCO’s visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool. It features reinforced side walls fully lined on the exterior with a dark green wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the band are trimmed with blue piping, while an additional length of identical piping borders the outer of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is an aluminum insignia consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 62 mm (w) x 25 mm (h) and retaining both original attachment prongs. Directly below the eagle, the centre of the cap band is pinned with an aluminum wreath and cockade, measuring 68 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). The lower edge of the cap band is flanked on each side by a blackened magnetic metal stud which accommodates a multi-piece black leatherette chinstrap, itself adjusted with dual magnetic metal buckles. A protruding vulcanfibre visor completes the exterior features, and is finished in black on the obverse and in khaki-tan on the reverse. A multi-piece beige rayon liner encompasses the interior, while a wide brown leather sweatband surrounds the walls. The crown retains an intact transparent plastic moisture guard which bears a maker’s mark in the form of the “EREL” logo of the former firm of Robert Lubstein, Berlin, with a distributor’s label reading “MILITÄRWARENFABRIK, HANS DÜRBECK, WIEN, IX. BERGGASSE 31”. An additional silvered “EREL” mark is visible on the right side of the sweatband. The cap measures approximately 24.5 cm (w) x 27.5 cm (l) x 17 cm (h). Minor material fatigue is evident, and includes sporadic wear throughout the exterior wool which has worn away the nap, some desiccation of the sweatband, and minor soiling of the interior liner. The cap remains in an overall near extremely fine condition.
