Germany, Federal Republic. A German Order, III Class Cross, Exhibition Example with Godet Mark, c. 1980

(Deutscher Orden der NSDAP, Kreuz III. Klasse, Museumsstück). Constructed of a gilded alloy with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with black enameled arms, the obverse of each trimmed with a raised and gilded oak leaf border, joined through the quadrants by a double-sided NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastikas, bearing a central NSDAP membership badge consisting of a white enameled medallion overlaid by a black mobile swastika, situated within a dark red enameled ring bearing a gilt inscription of “NATIONAL-SOZIALISTISCHE D.A.P.”, in turn surrounded by a gilded oak leaf wreath,the reverse with barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, the pinback maker marked with a number “50”, likely indicating the wartime LDO code for Gebrüder Godet, Berlin, measuring 48.20 mm (w) x 48.24 mm (h), weighing 36.7 grams, a high-quality example produced for collector display in near mint condition.
