Germany, Empire. A Lot of Commemorative Medals and Awards

1. A Saxon Commemorative Cross for 1870/1871, a George’s cross with an oak and laurel wreath in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, constructed of fire gilded bronze with blue enamels, the obverse with pebbled arms and a central gilded medallion featuring the crowned ornamental monogram “J” within a blue ring of enamels, the reverse dated “1870/1871”, unmarked, suspended using a swivel loop and its period-original ribbon, measuring 27.0 mm (w) x 26.8 mm (l).

2. A Baden Volunteer War Aid Cross 1914-1916, a Cross Pattée constructed of gilded zink, the obverse with the crown of Baden on the top arm, suspended from a lady’s ribbon that does not appear original to the award, dated “1914” and “1916” on the side arms, and featuring the Baden coat of arms on the bottom arm, with a Greek cross in the center, the reverse featuring the crowned ornamental monogram “F” in the center, unmarked, measuring 39.0 mm (w) x 39.1 mm (l). 

3. A Baden Remembrance Medal for 1849, consisting of a circular bronze medal, suspended from an incorrect replacement ribbon, the obverse with a vertically oriented sword within a palm wreath; the reverse inscribed “Dem tapfern Befreiungsheer” (German - to the brave freeing army) within a laurel wreath, circumscribed Leopold Grosherzog von Baden; measuring 31.1 in diameter.

4. An “I Gave Gold for Iron” Donation Award, a small ornate plaque constructed of non-magnetic metal, inscribed with “Gold gab ich für eisen” (I gave gold for iron), measuring 50 mm (w) x 38.9 mm (l).
