1. A III Class Cross with Swords, constructed of coppered bronze, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms, the obverse bearing a central raised monogram of King Ludwig II, situated within a stylized belt and buckle bearing a raised inscription of “MERENTI” (“MERIT”) with arabesques, the twelve o’clock arm riveted with a crossed sword clasp, the reverse bearing a central raised Bavarian lion rampant, situated within a stylized belt and buckle bearing an institution date of “1866” with arabesques, topped by a suspension ring retaining a period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 41.76 mm (w) x 49.88 mm (h), weighing 22.4 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux blue leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a silvered inscription of “BAYR. M. V. KR. 3. KL.”, the interior with a white satin lid liner and depressed blue velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal snap button, unmarked, measuring 60 mm (w) x 90 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), demonstrating minor surface oxidation and moderate material fatigue to the award and case, respectively, in better than very fine condition.
