Die-struck alloy with a bronze wash, horizontal oval, obverse illustrating an embossed winged man (Icarus) in flight, a swastika superimposed on his legs and a semi-circular banner above with the recessed letters "NSFK", surrounded by the inscription in Gothic type "Nationalsozialistiches Fliegerkorps Deutschlandflug 1938" (National Socialist Flying Corps German Flight 1938), reverse inscribed in embossed Latin block script, "Mit unserem Führer im gleichen schritt und tritt fliegen wir für unser ewiges Deutschland" (In equal pace and stride with our Führer we fly for our eternal Germany), embossed facsimile signature of the NSFK leader, Friedrich Christiansen and number stamped "4187" below, 77 mm x 94.7 mm, light contact, near extremely fine.
