Vatican, Papal State. An Order of St. Sylvester, Commander in Case by Cravanzola

Instituted October 31, 1841. In silver gilt and enamels, a white enamelled Maltese cross with smooth rays in each quadrant, the obverse medallion features St. Sylvester on a blue enamelled field, encircled by a ring inscribed SANC. SILVESTER P.M., the reverse features the crest of the Vatican, encircled by a blue ring inscribed MDCCCXLI MCMV., measures 52.7mm (w) x 59.3 mm (h), marked with a boars head on the loop denoting French manufacturer and silver guarantee, worn on a full length neck ribbon, enamel damage to the reverse medallion, light gilt wear, remains in very fine condition.

Accompanied by a small boutonniere. Contained in the original case of issue, a red leatherette exterior, interior lid marked D. CRAVANZOLA GIOELLERI ROMA, with partial black velvet medal bed, measures 80 mm (w) x 138 mm (l) x 23.3 mm (d), light wear, functional hinge and clasp, very fine.
