Description
(Ordo Sancti Gregorii Magni/Ordine di San Gregorio Magno). Instituted September 1st, 1831. Constructed of Gold, consisting of a Maltese Cross with ball finials, the obverse with a central blue enameled circular disc bearing the leftward facing bust of St. Gregory, circumscribed “Gregorius Magnus” in capitalized lettering, the reverse with a similar central blue enameled circular disc inscribed “Pro Deo et Principe” (For God and Ruler) in capitalized lettering, circumscribed “Gregorius” in matching capitalized lettering, suspended from a Gold laurel wreath with green and red enameled accents, on a broad ring for suspension from its period-original neck ribbon, unmarked, measuring 51.9 mm (w) x 51.5 mm (l), weighing 21.65 grams, in extremely fine condition.
