Instituted 1888. In silver gilt, a cross with fleur de lis in each arm, centre a medallion with the bust of Pope Leo XIII, facing left, within a circlet inscribed 'LEO XIII P.M. ANN. X.'. the reverse centre bears the crossed keys of the Vatican surrounded by 'PRO ECCLESIA ET PONTIFICE' (For the Church and the Holy See) in a circlet, the inscription on the arms reads 'CAL' (top), 'PRID' (left), 'IAN' (right) and '1888' (lower), measures 43.8 mm (w) x 48.9 mm (h), light wear, original ribbon, very fine.
Contained in original, red leatherette case with papal iconography on the lid, medal bed of velvet with a silk lid marked TANFANI & BERTARELLI, measures 120.5 mm (w) x 61.3 mm (h), light wear, functional hinge and clasp, very fine.
