Silver badge in white and red enamel surrounded by two golden panicles of wheat, obverse centerpiece shows gilded hammer and sickle surmounted on a red star, hammer, plough, and torch, above sits a red-enameled flag with the Soviet motto 'Proletarians (Workers) of all countries, Unite!', reverse numbered 44951 and maker’s mark, on the Soviet pentagonal mount with original red striped ribbon, inclusive of eyelet 46.3 mm (h) x 37 mm (w), extremely fine condition.
2.An Order of the Red Banner Medal, 2nd Award. Footnote: On September 16, 1918 the first military decoration of Soviet Russia, the Order of the Red Banner, was established by the decree of the All-Union Central Executive Committee. The medal was awarded to the citizens of the Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic for heroism in combat or otherwise extraordinary accomplishments of military valor during combat operations, as well as to military units, warships and formations. The early variants of the Order were screw back badges to allow wear on clothing. Later variants (from 1943) hung from a standard Soviet pentagonal mount with a ring through the suspension loop.
