Ukraine. An Armed Forces Combatant’s Cross

(Khrest boyovoho diyacha ZSU / Хрест бойового діяча ЗСУ). Instituted in 1940. Three-piece construction, in bronze gilt with azure blue and black enamels, obverse illustrating a Crutch Cross with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the four arms in black, with a central raised disk in blue bearing a raised Tryzub, reverse inscribed in Ukrainian "C Y B" (SUV) on the arm at 12 o'clock and number impressed "02198" on the arm at 6 o'clock, measuring 39 mm (w) x 39 mm (h), screwback, intact enamels, adhesive residue evident on the azure blue and black enamels due to repositioning of the centrepiece disk, scattered gilt wear, better than very fine.

Footnote: The Armed Forces Combatant’s Cross was instituted in 1940 in Krakow, Poland and awarded to members of a veterans' organization of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
