(Kungliga Vasaorden). Instituted in 1772. In silver gilt, a white enameled Maltese cross, each arm finished with two ball finials, a Gold crown of Sweden in each quadrant, obverse roundel bearing a vase and a sheaf encircled by a red enameled band featuring the inscription “GUSTAF DEN III INST. MDCCLXXII”, with mirrored reverse roundel, measuring 63 mm (h) x 40 mm (w) inclusive of crown suspension, on original green ribbon, in extremely fine condition. Housed in a hard shell case, white satin interior, red velvet medal bed, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of Vasa was instituted on 26 May 1772 by King Gustav III. It is a Swedish order of chivalry, awarded to citizens of Sweden for service to state and society especially in the fields of agriculture, mining and commerce. It was unrestricted by birth or education and could therefore be awarded to anyone.
