Description
(Kungliga Nordstjärneorden). Instituted in 1748. A Grand Cross in silver gilt, featuring a white enamelled Maltese cross with ball finials, a three dimensional crown in each quadrant, the obverse medallion featured a blue enamelled field with a while enamelled five point star in the center and the motto NESCIT OCCASUM around the edge, the reverse medallion mirrors the obverse, the badge is surmounted by a large crown, measures 54.7mm (w) x 79.8mm (h – inclusive of crown suspension), weighs 34.7 grams, unmarked, worn on a full length sash, enamels intact, in very fine condition.
Accompanied by the Star of the order, in silver presents a four armed Maltese cross with smooth rays and ball finials, a cluster of nine smooth rays in each quadrant, a five point silver star is superimposed in the center, the reverse presents a single pin assembly, base of pin marked CFC denoting Carlman manufacture, with three crowns mark denotes Swedish manufacture, an S National control mark indicating a minimum silver standard of .800, and CH mark, measures 82.6mm (w) x 81.0mm (h), weighs 52.2 grams, several tips bent, dark patina, light wear, in very fine condition.
Award document to Augusto Rato Potier, dated September 22 1961, a folded page with three Swedish crowns at top surrounded by Seraphim Collar, the page is folded in half, measures 245mm (w) x 350mm (h), light foxing, remains in extremely fine condition.
A Diplomatic Passport to “Monsieur Augusto Potier, Consul Adjoint a Liverpool” dated 13 June 1934, including a small black and white photo of Potier in the upper left corner, two holes on left side, measures 275mm (w) x 410mm (h), light creasing and discolouration, remains in near extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Augusto Rato Potier was born on June 5, 1903 in Shanghai, China. He was a distinguished Portuguese career diplomat for over 40 years as a minister to Indonesia and as an ambassador to Sweden, Pakistan and Chile. He died on post in Santiago de Chile on December 27, 1964. His remains were repatriated to Portugal.
