Sweden, Kingdom. A Cased Firefigther’s Medal for Courage in Danger and Civic Zeal, c. 1920

(Medalj för Mod I Fara Och Medborgariver). Instituted in late 1893. A circular silver medal, the obverse bearing a Blackbird with its wings up in the air, surrounded by the inscription “Städernas Allmänna Brandförsvarsbolag” (General Fire Department), the reverse officially inscribed “Brandmästaren Nils Caselius” (Fire Master Nils Caselius), circumscribed by “För Mod I Faror Och Medborgariver” (For Courage in Danger and Civic Zeal), suspended from an elaborate suspender and a swivel ring, suspended from its period original ribbon featuring a functional horizontal pinback assembly, unmarked, measuring 36.0 mm in diameter.

Accompanied by its presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden core, the exterior covered with a lightly textured dark blue faux leather (leatherette), with a functional exterior metal hinge, intact interior fabric hinge cover, and functional external push-button clasp, the interior of the lid is constructed of padded silk that is marked “CC. Sporrong & Co., Stockholm” in gilt, measuring 66 mm (w) x 106 mm (l).
