Spain, Francoist Era. An Order of Cisneros, Grand Cross Breast Star

(Orden de Cisneros). Instituted in 1944. Two-piece construction, in silver gilt with red, black and yellow enamels, with two pins securing the eagle insignia to the Maltese cross and arrows base, measuring 75.5 mm (w) x 74.5 mm (h), ornate vertical pinback flanked by dual stays, multiple scratches evident on the red enamelled arms at 3 and 12 o'clock, otherwise the enamels are intact, near extremely fine. 

Footnote: The Order of Cisneros is a state order of Spain established by Francisco Franco on March 8, 1944. It is named after Cardinal Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros and primarily bestowed during the Francoist dictatorship and currently dormant, it rewarded political merit. The order was modified in 1976, to only reward politicians for merit, and was later modified again on April 15, 1977. Although the order has not been awarded since September 1977, it has not been formally abolished by the Spanish government
