(Congreso de Diputados). Constructed of silver gilt, a Vice-president’s Badge consisting of an enameled central coat of arms of the Spanish Congress of Deputies in multiple coloring, surrounded by a blue and gilded border, as well as an outsider scale replica of the Collar of the Golden Fleece partially enameled, with a surmounted enameled blue lace inscribed CONGRESO DIPUTADOS (Congress of Deputies), the reverse engraved EXCMO. SR. D. MODESTO FRAILE POUJADE VICEPRESIDENTE 1o 1979-1982 (Excellency Don Modesto Fraile Poujade, first Vice-president 1979-1982), suspended by an enameled red period Spanish royal crown, measuring 40.25 mm (w) x 71.51 mm (h - inclusive of crown suspension), connected with a beautifully knitted gilt cordon to wear in neck, displaying a crowned cypher of Juan Carlos I on a silver gilt clasp, cordon measuring 690 mm in total length, light contact, extremely fine condition; in its hardshelled case of issue, with red wood medal bed, marked on the interior lid maker’s label of Villanueva, with funcional clasp, stained exterior, case very fine.
Footnote: Modesto Fraile Poujade began his political career during the Franco dictatorship. Between 1971 and 1974 he was president of the Provincial Council of Segovia, being elected procurator in Cortes by his colleagues in the Provincial Council. In 1974 he was appointed civil governor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a position he held until 1976. During the Spanish Transition, he joined the Union of Democratic Center, being elected deputy for Segovia in the elections of 1977 and 1979 for the Democratic Center Union. During the First Legislature (1979-1982), he was first vice president of the Congress of Deputies in Spain.
