(Orden Svetog Save). Instituted January 23rd, 1883. Type III (1921-1941 issue, c. 1935). A fine Austrian-made Order of St. Sava III. Class Commander, constructed of gilded silver, consisting of a Maltese cross with ball finials, the arms of the cross in light blue and white enamels and with Serbian double-eagles with shields on their chests in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a central white enameled medallion bearing a delicately hand-painted depiction of St. Sava wearing green robes, surrounded by a matching inscription in gilt within blue enamels, the reverse with a similar central white enameled medallion inscribed “1883” in raised silver gilt numbers within a blue enameled outer circlet decorated with gilded laurels, suspended from a hollow swivel crown as well as a pierced ball and swivel round loop from its correct replacement neck ribbon, marked “G.A.S” on the swivel ring for manufacture by Scheid of Vienna, with silver hallmarks on the swivel ring but undecipherable, measuring 51.5 mm (w) x 55.9 mm (l), weighing 51.90 grams, a fine quality example with light contact marks to the enamels but an overall very well preserved example, in overall better than very fine condition.
