Description

A well-preserved icon depicting Christ and the Theotokos. Presented on a gessoed wooden board, the image consists of hand-painted faces of the former. Riveted to the board is a silvered brass riza featuring the robes of Christ and Mary executed in detail, complete with ribbed halos. Mary holds an orb in her right hand, while Christ’s right hand rests upon the top, symbolizing his receipt of authority. Four side rivets secure the riza to the board, which is fully lined with dark green velvet. A magnetic metal suspension loop is riveted into the top edge. Unmarked, the icon measures 9.5 cm (w) x 13 cm (h). Some issues consistent with age and display are evident, and include minor denting and tarnishing to the riza, as well as the loss of three side rivets. It remains in a very fine condition.
