Russia, Imperial. A St. George Cross, IV Class for First World War Service, to Semyon Nikolaevich Vereshchagin

(Георгиевский крест, 4-й степени). Constructed of a silver alloy, on loop for suspension, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse bearing a central raised depiction of St. George slaying a dragon, the reverse bearing a central monogram of St. George (“СГ” for Святой Георгий, or St. George), the three and nine o’clock arms stamped with an award number of “527743” indicating issue to Semyon Nikolaevich Vereshchagin, the six o’clock arm bearing an inscription of “4 СТЕП” indicating IV Class, unmarked, measuring 34.06 mm (w) x 40.73 mm (h), weighing 10.8 grams, demonstrating surface scratching and edge nicks throughout, in addition to the loss of the ribbon, in very fine condition.

Footnote: Semyon Nikolaevich Vereshchagin served as a Rifleman with the 49th Siberian Rifle Regiment, 3rd Company, and received the accompanying award for leading an attack through barbed wire on the night of 4/5 July 1916.
