An extremely well-preserved First World War Russian bond poster, constructed of paper stock, the obverse bearing a detailed outline of two figures in warrior attire (possibly Rurik and Alexander Nevsky, inspiring patriotism by invoking key figures in Russian history) overlaying a Romanov imperial eagle, above a Russian Cyrillic inscription of “ВОЕННЫЙ ЗАЕМЪ / ОТЕЧЕСТВО НУЖДАЕТСЯ ВЪ ВАШЕЙ ПОМОЩИ. ПОДПИСЫВАЙТЕСЬ НА ЗАЕМЪ.” (“WAR BONDS / THE MILITARY NEEDS YOUR HELP. PURCHASE A BOND.”), the lower edge bearing inscriptions of “ДОЗВОЛЕНО ВОЕННОЙ 5 ФЕВРАЛЯ 1916 Г.”, indicating approval by military censors on 5 February 1916, and “Р. ГОЛИКЕ И А. ВИЛЬБОРГЪ”, indicating the the poster was printed by the St. Petersburg-based publishing house of Golike and Vilborg, beautifully presented on a sturdy linen backer which has perfectly preserved the poster for display, measuring 71.5 cm (w) x 104.5 cm (h) overall, in extremely fine condition.
