Description

(Ordinul Steaua Romaniei). Instituted in 1877 by Prince Carol I. Type I (1877-1932). Military Division. In silver gilt, a blue enamel cross with clusters of smooth rays in each quadrant with crossed swords denoting a wartime award, the obverse medallion features a superimposed eagle on a red enamelled field, surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed IN FIDE SALUS, encircled by a green enamelled wreath, the reverse bears the crowned monogram of King Carol I, the cross is surmounted by a large crown, measures at 41.4mm (w) x 65.6mm (h- to top of crown suspension), and weighing at 26.68 grams, marked with a boars head on the obverse suspension under the crown denoting silver purity of .800 fineness, on period ribbon, heavy enamel loss to green wreath on both sides, blue enamel in arms chipped, wear to silver gilt, remains in better than fine.
