Description
1. An Order of the Crown of Romania, V. Class Knight with Swords. (Ordin Corona României). Instituted with swords on December 21st, 1916. Type II (1932-1947 issue). A Maltese Cross constructed of silver with red and white enamels featuring silver Royal Crowns and crossed swords in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a central red enamelled medallion decorated with the Royal Cypher of Carol I in gilt, surrounded by a band of white enamels inscribed with “Prin Noi Insine” (By Ourselves) in Latin, the reverse with a central red enamelled medallion inscribed “10. Maiu” (May 10th), surrounded by a band of white enamels dated “1866”, “1877”, and “1881”, suspended from a swivel crown and swivel ring for suspension from its period original ribbon, an unmarked example but manufactured by either C. F. Zimmermann in Pforzheim or Souval in Vienna and distributed by Joseph Resch, measuring 37.3 mm (w) x 37.5 mm (l), weighing 16.56 grams, with light contact marks as well as a small chip on the white enamelled band on the obverse near the 9 o’clock arm, in better than very fine condition.
2. A Bravery Medal, II. Class in Silver, Type II. (Medalia Virtutea Militară de Război). Instituted November 25th, 1880. A cross constructed of silvered bronze with an oak wreath in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a central medallion with the leftward facing bust of Carol I circumscribed by his name and title, the reverse inscribed “Virtute Militara” (Military Virtue) in Latin, on a fixed loop and swivel ring for suspension from its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 37.8 mm (w) x 44.8 mm (l), weighing 20.35 grams, in near very fine condition.
