In response to evolving domestic opinion, eMedals Inc has made the conscious decision to remove the presentation of German Third Reich historical artifacts from our online catalogue. For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. We acknowledge the growing sentiments put forth by the Canadian public and have taken proactive actions to address this opinion.

Description
Description
A fine example of the rare Portuguese Model 1916 Helmet, in thin stamped steel, presenting the recognizable ribbed design on the crown with ventilation holes around the brim, the interior presents several grommets where a sweatband would have been and the connection for the chin strap (both missing). The helmet measures 313mm (l) x 259 mm (w) x 132 mm (h), exhibiting wear and rusting throughout, missing the interior components, remains near very fine and very rare.
Footnote: These helmets were available to the British for private purchase, however they were found not to be effective against even moderate velocity rounds. An article written by Doctor C.W. Saleeby, in the Daily Chronicle (07 Aug 1916) stated, "the issues included the poor anti-ballistic qualities of the weak, lightweight metal used. In addition, the ribbed feature caused shrapnel fragments to catch and penetrate the helmet rather than deflecting them. Because of these defects, the Portuguese M16 has the distinction of being the worst helmet of the First World War." They were then banned from selling in Great Britain after 1916.
