Portugal, Kingdom. A Cased Royal Military Order of Our Lord Jesus Christ, II. Class Commander Set, c. 1925
(Ordem dos Cavaleiros de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo). Instituted in 1319. (c. 1925 issue). A Royal Military Order of Our Lord Jesus Christ, II. Class Commander Set, consisting of:
1. The Neck Badge. Constructed of silver gilt, consisting of a Portuguese Cross with red enameled arms bearing a white enameled Latin Cross centrally, the obverse and reverse visually identical, suspended from a a eight-pointed silver gilt star with white enameled arms, with a red enameled heart centrally topped by a red enameled fan and a black enameled Latin Cross, unmarked, measuring 47.6 mm (w) x 65.6 mm (l) not including its suspension device, weighing 37.15 grams.
2. The Breast Star. Constructed of silver and silver gilt, consisting of a star comprising of twenty-two arms with diagonal ends, the obverse with a circular central white enameled medallion bearing a red and white enameled Portuguese cross, surrounded by a ring of gilded laurel leaves and berries, topped by a red enameled heart centrally topped by a red enameled fan and a black enameled Latin Cross, the reverse is plain with a dual-pronged vertical pinback assembly, unmarked, measuring 64.3 mm (w) x 73.1 mm (l), weighing 42.26 grams.
Accompanied by a mis-matched presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden core, with a lightly textured red faux leather (leatherette) exterior, the exterior of the case with functional dual metal hinges, intact interior fabric hinge cover, and functional exterior metal clasp closure, measuring 114 mm (w) x 273 mm (w). Accompanied by a ribbon bar for a II. Class Commander, consisting of a ribbon held in place by a dual ribbon bar, featuring a rosette and a single stem of laurels, measuring 35 mm (w) x 27 mm (l).
A visually beautiful award with very fine quality massive enameled surfaces, with the enamels very well preserved with only minor contact marks, in very fine condition.
